We encountered several challanges users have with Gitlab and its login over time:
You dont have a gitlab account. Sign on for Gitlab.
The issue here lies with the usage of a not standard-conform mailclient. The fastest solution is our Webmailclient.
In this case you can go to the sign-in page of gitlab. There you will find the “Forgot password?” Link to the right above the “sign in” button. Hit that link. Enter yout CIP Mailaddress on the next page. Should you not know your CIP Mailaddress you can look it up by login into CipConf with your LMU Campus Id. After finishing the Gitlab Password Reset Dialogs an eMail with a password reset link will be sent to your CIP Mailaddress. If you experience troubles with accessing that eMail please read above. IMPORTANT: you need to activate yout gitlab account through the link in the initial eMail before you can reset your password. If you no longer have this eMail please contact the RBG.
The Gitlab eMails are sent to your CIP Address/Mailbox. You can access the Mails there via your customary Mailclient. (Configinfo). Or you can use our Webmailclient.
We are running an independent Gitlab Instance optimized for our own needs under a different address. There are also further Gitlab Instances throughout the LMU. The LRZ is running another Instance for example.
Another frequent wrong Gitlab Server is gitlab.com.
The correct login is your CIP Account. Neither the LMU Campus ID nor the LRZ Account work.
Just use your CIP Account. No “@cip….” required.
Gitlab password is different to CIP password. Read the section above for help.
